Driving, Nature Center, and Geo-Caching

Anyone who knows us, knows we love to be out-of-doors.  However, Daniel does not like to get too cold.  And - we want to live somewhere that has all. four. seasons.  Virginia is perfect. Although we haven't seen any *real* snow yet this winter, it has been cold enough to stay in from the cold.  But not cold enough to keep us from outdoors, completely!

Ali needed practice hours behind the wheel for drivers education, Syd wanted to go back to the nature center, Daniel wanted to get OUT (geo-caching), and I wanted to be with them all - so we made a day of it.

Ali climbed into the driver's seat and took us up the mountain to see the Wintergreen ski resort and tubing area (we're headed there to go tubing soon) and go to their nature center.

Above you see Syd sifting through the archaeological dig site in the nature center.

Ali being eaten by a bear skin.
And me spending time with my favorite guy!
Daniel reading all about the native creatures around our area (never can know too much!).
I love the gray he's getting - sophisticated and stately.  You can't see it in my hair, yet.

Upstairs in the nature center there's a kids area.  Syd wanted to present a puppet show, so Ali joined in and helped her out.  And don't let Ali tell you any different - she enjoyed herself immensely.

After the nature center we went geo-caching.
Daniel loves the outdoors - it's his element.  With him working so much these days, I wanted him the chance to get back to nature.  One was enough for him this day! It was rather chilly!

I found this one.
Actually, he found it first, but insisted that I be the person to "find it"
and wouldn't even give me a clue - can you believe that?

Syd loves to be in the outdoors just as much as her daddy!
She is definitely her father's daughter.

Ali on the other hand - is her mother's daughter!
She would rather be thrifting, but loves spending time with
her Daddy-O!

That was it for our day out.  Later, Ali drove us home, for dinner we had chili that I had put in the slow cooker before we left, and watched a movie together.  I'm so thankful for the family the Lord has given me.
I am truly Blessed.

Hope you are too!

Toby

This is Toby.  The kitty cat that adopted Sydney a year-and-a-half ago.  He was a wild kitty that didn't come inside the house for a very. long. time.  because of being a boy kitty that liked to leave a trail of his "essence". I cannot stand the smell of "essence of kitty".  yuck!  We had him fixed and it cured that little problem.

Because it's been so cold outside at night - we've recently allowed him to be inside.  And we've noticed little marks on the arm of the sofa.  Deastating, I know!  So we had to take him back to the vet to have his claws taken care of.
Inhumane?  possibly.  Necessary?  absolutely.  Done?  of course.

Now he sits on one specific chair, with his paws over the arm, looking out the back door.  He sure is a cute kitty, with lots of personality.  By the way - he was named Toby because his girl's daddy had a cat named Toby when he was growing up.

Old Man Winter Visited

Well, old man winter finally decided to grace us with his presence last night.  Not like it's been around some of your parts, but just a light dusting.  It's been a mild winter everywhere it seems, but this year we were so hoping for some real *white stuff* since we've been out of it for five years.  So much for the sleds that were bought for Christmas!

It was enough for Sydney to get soaked on the trampoline.  She came in with her teeth chattering like a pair of vintage wind-up dentures.  The girls went to bed late last night, with dreams and high-hopes of snowball fights with their friends after church tomorrow :o)  I do hope we get one good snow before it's all over.

Just enough to be a tease...

And enough to be concerned for Daniel on the road this morning.  My feeling of it is this - if it's going to be cold enough to freeze - give us something for it to be worthwhile (just once or twice).

Everyone is keeping warm and cozy today.  Ali is wrapped up in an electric blanket on her bed with the Kindle - reading a civil war book (With Lee in Virginia), Syd is curled up in the big comfy chair (with her favorite companion, Toby) making her way through another Nancy Drew game, I've got my feet propped up on the sofa in my favorite L.L.Bean sweater - thumbing through some old Country Living magazines, and Daniel is at Lowes, picking up sealant.  Well, three out of four isn't bad.

Warm thoughts!

Snippets From Syd; Injury

Yesterday she tried to cut her finger off - today she's proud of how funny it looks with the bandage!
